So Sophie and I popped over to the vet yesterday to have a checkup and blood drawn. The vet didn’t pull any punches… he did say we were at the end of the road. The pills she is on need to work or not much more can be done.

So of course, I anxiously awaited all day for the call. I could barely think and all the stress of course wore me out. Just doing the basic functions was exhausting and of course I had a full day planned. As it got later and later, I of course worried. I noticed the vet doesn’t like giving bad news and seems to save those calls for the end of the day. This time we just got lucky and he was busy. Got the call, while watching Lost in Austen (great movie btw) and the special pills she’s taken are helping. The vet said, “very good news, she’s improving. This looks promising.” Whew! More time to enjoy my ball of white fluff.

Two of my favorite pictures of her – in her favorite spots outside.

For Whisker’s on Wednesday, we have Sunshine, who has been quite the little needy bug lately. She’s been all about the lap time and getting into the camera when possible. She goes in spurts. I think I’ve mentioned this before, but it’s worth mentioning again because it’s such a nice story with a happy ending and we could all use more of those. She was born in a barn, and dropped off by her Mama on the porch of the farmhouse when it appeared that things were just not right.

Not only had her eyes never opened yet, they were full of green gunk and obviously Mama knew that something was clearly wrong and she needed human help. A very nice and caring vet tech bottle fed her and cared for her until we adopted her, which was on the first day she was available for adoption at a cat’s only vet we used to go to when we lived in another city. I had wanted a calico and DH mentioned to them… if they happen to have a calico kitten in the future. Well, they did happen to have a calico – named Sunshine – and she was quite a little hellion. She never wanted to be held or cared for but over time and some persistence from us, keenly watching the cues, she’s become a lap kitty on her terms. Above she is cuddled on my husband’s lap. Last night was my turn.

The funny thing is Sunshine and Emma were both not cuddly kittens, but they have an understanding. When we moved we put them together in a crate when Sunshine wouldn’t stop shaking. She was just shaking like a leaf, nervous about leaving the only home she had ever known at that point. When I went back to check on them, I found Emma with her arm around Sunshine comforting her that things would be ok. They were just fine and obviously now with both their lap kitty status, they decided things are ok. So really two nice stories today. Have a happy day!

This poor gentleman is about 18 years old. I say about because when I adopted him they told me he was 2. The vet said more like 8 and he’s lived with me at least 10 years. About 6 years ago, he bacame a an insulin dependant diabetic. Well, that meant two a day shots for the last 6 years and he did well. The problem happened about 2 weeks ago. We found him in diabetic shock. I got him stable with Karo syrup laced tuna. After this event, I popped him right by the vet, where a series of pokings and proddings happened. The verdict? He’s a healthy as a kitten. All his organs are working great and the pancreas has decided to start working as well. Now he does have diminished site and a bit of arthritis, but really he’s healthy.

I’ve been checking him the past two weeks with an blood sugar meter and only one time has he had to have a 1/2 dose of insulin. Other than that his blood sugar has been spot on. Talk about an amazing kitty.

I know today is Cat’s on Wednesday, so today is Shadow.

Well the test results are back and they found nothing wrong. That means he has the exact 3 symptoms that Chrissy had when we found the cancer. The big difference is he put on about 1/4 pound, so that is an improvement. We talked to the doc and he said to just watch him and if he looses anymore weight to bring him in for an x-ray. I’ll keep you all posted
