2 Pair and Replacements

I do still knit and here’s some proof.

2 lovely pairs of socks. One with that new tomato heel. The jury is still out on if I really like it or not, but it was fun for this pair. The purple pair is my friend Julie’s pattern Monet’s Twist with a few variations. I’ve basically turned it into a plain vanilla ribbed sock. I’m a Plain Jane when it comes to my socks, which I guess works well with my penchant still for these fun multi-color yarns.

I also casted on some new lovelies. The top one is Goblin by Gypsy Girl and the bottom 3 are various colors by Sophie Toes. The one with the most black is called Kitty. I had to have Kitty.

Finished Projects

I’ve been working really hard to finish up some really old projects. They had been WIPs way too long and that had to come to an end.

In a finish or frog it decision I decided to felt this mitten and make it a cat toy. It was too big and I was not going to knit the mate.

Finally got this tea cozy complete. Again it turned out a bit too small and too long. It was more like a coffee press cozy. However, I made it work and was able to ditch the pom-pom on top. Fits my 2-cup Brown Betty nicely.

These car socks sat in the car way too long. Finally finished them up and another pair of useful socks for the drawer to replace the few blown out ones I had last winter. See how I said last winter – we won’t count those nasty snowflakes that tried to fall on Saturday.

Two Pair

Yesterday I started the day off with a bang by finishing two pairs of socks.

A lovely simple car sock (my favorite pattern is Classic Socks for the Family, but there seems to be a lot of free ones on Rav that have a similar recipe) – that just needed kitchnering and the second just needed a few inches knit and since they are in sport weight. That bit went quick while I was watching a movie.

This lovely pink yarn was gifted yarn from my friend Beverly. I called these my sanity socks as I had started them right before a very quick business trip and had to have a simple yet, mindful enough pattern to keep my focus. The pattern is Upside Down – Ampersand, but the heel is from my favorite toe-up pattern – the Humble Sock goes Toe-Up.

The Frog Pond Birth

Last week the Gumdrop socks met the frog pond.

Can you see the trouble with sock two. I know, I know… heinous in sock knitting. One cuff is shorter by 1/2 inch and I messed up which diamond to start the heel on. I really felt no love lost with this project – so off to the frog pond it went and was birthed into these lovely Slipped Stitch Ribbed Sock from Sensational Knitted Socks.

I’m enjoying these socks much more.

Blow Out…

Two different days… two socks had a blow out.

A pair of monkeys on the left… bummer. I got these in a swap and loved them. They were in a sport, so great in the colder weather.

A pair of Koigu knit in Julie’s pattern – Monet’s Twist – on the right. I loved these socks. The color, the pattern… going to have to make another pair.

I suppose I could darn, but I don’t seem to ever get around it.

I am working on two new pairs.

Gumdrops… I love these socks and this heel fits like a charm. I was a little leery at first, but I love it.

Charade – a freebie that is just awesome.

Silly Sock Swap

Thank you Debbi for the gorgeous socks. I got them in the mail today and ripped the package open and put them right on. I will really enjoy them. The pattern is Debbi’s very own design – Lady Olivia Lace. The yarn is Ivy Brambles Echo Lake.

Silly Sock Swap Progress

I’m down to the heel and I’m hoping to get through the gusset today. I hope that my Silly Sock Swap Pal likes these socks. They will probably have to wait until next winter to wear them as if you remember they are solid wool and going to be warm.

Spin and Knit

For some reason I got a crazy idea and joined the Ravelympics. I’m in the Fleece to FO Track. I’d been wanting to spin for another pair of socks and (a) it was a good time to motivate me to do this and (b) I thought this would be fun for my Silly Sock Swap. The Silly Sock Swap is due April 1, so I figured if these didn’t work out I would have enough time to knit another pair.

After a marathon spinning session – I got 360 yarns of 3-ply fingering weight yarn from about 4.5 ounces. This is made from a Corriedale/Mohair blend. I sent in the mohair and Spinderellas added the Corriedale. I believe the Corriedale was top so it was it was fluffed up and so easy to spin.

I think 3-ply is my favorite yarn to knit with – it does take longer to spin, but I think it’s worth it to have the smooth roundness. I started knitting as soon as the twist was set and look here…isn’t it gorgeous. This is a free pattern – Saxony by Lisa Lloyd and maybe my best hand spun project yet. I’m thinking hand spun cabled sweater now.

First FO of 2010

So here we go… I finished up a pair of basic socks with some yarn I dyed a while ago. These have been hanging on for ages and ages, since I just worked on them a minute here and there. The eternal car sock project.

Well… that feels good.

Also I’ve completed a few dishcloths. I have more to go on those as I need a stack for the house, but this put a little dent in it.

Finally have you seen lavender mashed potatoes?

We got the potatoes from the CSA – they are the blue or purple variety and they make lovely lavender mashed potatoes. They taste like the regular ones.

Ok… back to my hat knitting for Mom. Hope to have that one finished up before long as well.

Knitting Continues

Since I had nearly a whole ball left after finishing Gretel, I decided that I needed to make a pair of Fetching. You know…the ones that everyone has made. I have to say – the more I work with this KnitPicks yarn – the more I’m liking it. I can see a gorgeous, cozy sweater knitted up in this yarn.

I always have various socks in progress. Eventually I get them to the point I need to work on them during a block of uninterrupted time. Here we have some of my own hand-dyed, 2-at-a-time on one long circular.

I’m decreasing the gusset now and will be going up the leg soon.
