I’m knitting the Wedding Cake from Alan Dart. Well, for some reason I looked at this and my brain said – hmmm…must be knit in the round, so I knit the top of the cake in the round. I started knitting the base in the round and was happily knitting around when my brain said something isn’t right here. I decided a good re-reading of the directions was in order and next thing you know – whoops… It’s supposed to be knit flat. So I ripped out the base and am now re-knitting it. I’m at the point I ripped -so all is good, but I decided to leave the top in the round and see if it works when I go to stuff. If not, I’ll rip and re-knit.

So I just wanted to do a quick update post to let you all know I’m on the mend. Last Tuesday I had the works sinus surgery, including fixing the deviated septum and have been spending my time laying around the house in a Vicodin-induced haze recovering. Yesterday, I was able to get my packing out. I’m slowly getting better, but it’s going to take time.

Today I did want to make one stop. I headed with Mike and Faygo over to the vet. Poor Faygo kitty has had an ulcer on his eye that we’ve been trying to heal. Well good news is the eye looks to be healing nicely. Also we got to meet the new vet at the practice. I know it sounds silly, but we spend a lot of time at the vet and I wanted to make sure any change is in a positive direction. We’ve known for sometime that our vet has been terribly overworked being the only vet at the practice. We thought from the start a new addition was a good idea.

Anyway, she is out of school a couple of years and very vibrant. I think she’s going to be a good fit. Both Mike and I really liked her and Faygo responded positively. We got lucky as it was a slow day and we got to visit for a little bit and go through his history with her. Our regular vet popped in at the end basically to make sure we met and to see how I was feeling as he heard about my surgery.

They had a photo of her with her three dogs on the counter and one of the vet techs told us her little long-hair Chihuahua was dropped off with an exposed bone beak at the practice where she was working previously. The owner just left her, so the doc mended her up and took her home. A lady after my own heart.

So in my haze, I have been doing some knitting. Remember this tea cozy from a the 2008 holiday issue of Knit Simple? So 13 more pin tucks to go. I’m not crazy about the big pom-pom on the top, but I was thinking some knit or crochet flowers or something might work instead. Also if you’ve looked at my knitting Rav queue at all, my knitting mojo seems to have come back with a vengeance. I’m trying not to order the KnitPicks Harmony needles now that they are on sale – oh along with that cute stocking kit in blue. I know someone who would love a hand knit Christmas Stocking. Of course it would need a chunk of Grumpy for the inside.

So I’m a little worried about NaNoWriMo starting tomorrow… right now – I’m thinking I may have bit more off than I can chew with that challenge. We shall see…I may be writing unintelligible crap just to get the number up.

This week blew by. I can’t believe it’s Friday already. I must be in a high creative time because I’ve been crafting up a storm lately. Here’s some examples – 175 yards of Aran to bulky weight of lovely CormoX – Pia. I want to make the Truly Tasha Shawl. I’m thinking this is going to be good. It may be a little heavier, but it will be gorgeous.

Then I finally got around to making my iPod Touch cozy. Basically worsted weight yarn, size 8 needles. Cast on 40sts and join in the round. Knit 2 to 2.5 inches and do some eyelets with a double YO. I came back and knit into the back and make nice big holes for the i-cord. Then I knit till it was long enough and k2tog around and around until I had 3 stitches and then sliped the yarn on a blunt needle and bound off. Simple. Then I knit the eye cord and then put it through the holes and bound off.

Also, look at this gorgeous watercolor Julie sent me. Looks just like Chrissy. Big thanks to Julie. I’m off to get a frame to put it in my craft room. I miss that little stinker bunches.

There’s also been crochet and more embroidery… but I’ll get to that later.

I knitted up two dishcloths over the weekend. We’re having a little party this week with the knitting group. It’s a Winter Celebration. We’re doing a dishcloth swap – Yankee style. So, it should be a lot of fun.

This is an easy and free pattern – The Picot Swirl Cloth.

Here’s a look at the yummy rustic rolls that DH made over the weekend. More bread bowls too for the savory chili.

It’s make a nice and squishy dish rag. It’s a freebie found on Twisted Loops Blog.

Also had delicious chili for dinner in the bread bowls. All in all a nice Sunday.
