After all the hoopla on Fountain Pen Network – I had to try one. This is a Twsbi – Medium nib.

Writing sample with Iroshizuku ink in Fuyu-Syogun. I have to say – all the hoopla was right on. Love this pen and for the price I can have several in different nib sizes. You can find them sold on eBay – just search Twsbi.

New to the Herd

I got a lovely new fountain pen for Christmas – a Visconti Homo Sapien.

Can’t wait to catch up on my correspondence this week. I’m way too far behind on that as well as other thing. After getting sick at Thanksgiving I never did manage to recover.

Until now. I’m finally making a dent in things. I crossed one big thing off my list this today – I cleaned my closet and dresser out. I reorganized and managed to purge two garbage bags full of clothes. Love to cross things off the list. I’m already feeling like I accomplished something and am getting back on track.

Rose Gold Sailor Pen

I just couldn’t resist.

It’s a Sailor fountain pen with rose gold trimmings and nib.

Inked with a this new pink ink that is one of my new favorites.

Sample written on Clairefontaine paper. The ink is smooth and light like the J. Herbin Inks, but seemingly a bit smoother. Also this reminded me of Rose Cyclamen, but less screaming – more of a true pink. I love it – I’ve actually already had to re-ink it. Off to write more letters.

Faygo on Wednesday

The weather was beautiful today and spring fever is starting to hit. We had 60-degress today and some sun. Yeah! I thought since it’s cat’s on Wednesday – it would be a good day to get a new picture of Faygo since his fur has grown back.

Also lookie what I got today -

My Valentines day present has arrived. DH picked out another one, unfortunately they couldn’t get that one anymore. After we changed the order to this lovely one and some new inks, I found the original one an Fountain Pen Network and it’s winging it’s way here now.

I inked it with Sailor Irori Ink.

Also I may have put in another ink order from Jet Pens, but we won’t talk about that until Friday.

Kinda interesting this week. I’m currently working in the marketing department. Some of the folks went to a class about how to build your email business. One of the things the instructor suggested was that if you have writers block use a pen and paper instead of the computer. The computer is a linear thinking tool, where the pen lets you think in a non-linear manner. I’m all for using more pens an ink.

Howdy! I hope you’re all having a great holiday season. I’ve been busier than a one-armed paper hanger. Let me catch you all up to speed. Faygo kitty is doing well. He’s back to killing his toy mice. I think he’s actually gaining weight too. No doubt, since I’ve been chasing him around feeding him every chance I get. This isn’t hard to do since I’m free as a bird during the days. I was laid-off from my part-time job a couple of weeks ago. While I miss my friends that I worked with, let’s say just are some things I just don’t miss… like the drive (esp this is shaping up to be a bad winter)… amongst other things. DH asked me how I like being off and my reply was “I could get used to this.” Oh and believe me I could…if it’s possible I seem to be even busier, but actually getting things done.

So we had a really nice Christmas around here. I was completely spoiled. DH loves to indulge my hobbies and he’s jumped on bored with my fountain pen obsession. Here are my three new pens… top to bottom – the Cartier Roadster (fine nib), the sterling silver Sailor (medium-fine nib), The Pelikan M805 (extra-fine nib). The 805 is very interesting. the Sailor writes the smoothest, and the Cartier feels the most luxurious with the lapis lazuli crystal on the top.

He also made sure I supplied with lots of lovely stationery. I can’t wait to write more letters.

Finally I got this beautiful rosewood pen box.

I know, I know… completely spoiled. So I’m hoping with my new found free time to be blogging more and have lots more projects completed to put on here. Yipee!

Healing

Sorry it’s been at least a fortnight. I’ve been busy healing. First of look at this lovely plant that my friend Dawn gave me after my surgery.

Then I also got a lovely tea cozy as a get well soon gift from Julie.

Finally there has been spinning…

I had to sit in the living room, so I busted out my light weight Joy. This is a Grafton Fiber batt and I think it’s going to be a light fingering when all is said and done.

Oh and I also may have added a new fountain pen to the ever growing herd. The purple Lamy fine nib.

I inked it with Diamine Monaco red, which I like but probably not in this pen. I think I’m going to ink it with PR’s Black Cherry next.

Finally Some Sun

So after several dreary days of rain we are actually seeing the sun.

So I have been serious big by the Waterman bug and couldn’t resist this shimmery pink fine point Waterman Hemisphere. Isn’t she lovely? She writes so smooth. I inked her with J. Herbin’s Violette Pensee, which is now another new favorite ink.

My other new favorite is the Clairefontaine notebook I am writing in. I bought several Clairefontaine notebooks on my trip – some small and some medium size. I love this smooth paper and this little size is really handy to carry around as a to-go notebook.

The Trip

I’ve been thinking all day about where to start…it was a whirlwind trip and we did so many great things.

So I headed out on Wednesday to Julie’s and the fun began right away. We headed to Concord, MA where we went to the Orchard House. This was the house where Little Women was written by Louisa Mae Alcott. It was a great. I stood right next to Louisa’s desk, pen and inkwell. We learned a lot about all the Alcott family members. We had a great guide.

Thursday we went to the MFA with a quick stop to an antique book shop and Bromfield’s pen shop. This was my first experience at a real pen shop. I ended up picking up this gorgeous Waterman Perspective. I inked it today with Diamine Prussian Blue.

At the corner of the street is Granary Burying Ground. We looked at the site of the Boston Massacre and all the graves. We found lots of famous in folks from New England, but Mother Goose was a complete surprise.

We then lunched and walked around the MFA. Unfortunately I couldn’t get any good shots without the flash at the MFA. However, I did get this one… which was scary cool.

Friday we headed to Hyde Park, NY where our hotel was right across the street from FDR’s home and library. We toured the house and the grounds. This great bronze piece was on the grounds. After that we had dinner at the CSA’s Escoffier Restaurant.

Saturday we went to the NY Sheep and Wool. It was the coldest festival I’ve ever attended. I also think it was busier than ever. Some of the booths were so busy, we couldn’t get in them. I did manage to get some good finds on lace. The top brown is silk and yak and the colors are silk and cashmere. The bottom is merino and silk.

After we got too cold, we decided to bail on the festival and head to the Vanderbilt house, which was much different than FDR’s house. I was able to get a better shot of the house today.

Sunday we headed back to the festival real quick for a few more purchases. We got there at 9am and it was nearly empty. Not all the booths were opened up yet, but we had a great time and made it back to the booths we wanted to see. So I also bought a few patterns and some other things on this trip that I had to ship back. Once I get the box, I’ll be able to share those.

Monday we went back to Concord, MA and to the Burlington Mall. We stopped at a few paper stores and another pen shop, but I managed to behave myself this time…well for now. Well, I made my way home and rested up today. Back to the grind tomorrow.

Closing with a great Gabby photo – which is one of Julie’s kitties. She made sure that I wasn’t lonely for kitties while I was there. However, she much preferred the bags the goodies came in than the actual goodies. To see more pictures, please check here.
