In A Funk

I can see why this time of the year is so popular for vacations. I’ve been stuck in a funk and just haven’t felt like doing anything really. I’ve gone to work, I’ve done a little knitting, but my creative juices feel very sapped. I’m taking my vitamins, so I feeling a bit better. I think if we just had a few warm days - or if I could run away to a warm beach for a few days, I’d get re-charged much quicker.

Anyway enough whining. Here is the beautiful scarf. I’m about 1/2 way through the main pattern. I would like this to be about 60 inches before I do the edging.

The blanket is also coming along. Those ends may kill me.

Not as quickly as before since my home time has been devoted to the scarf, but still growing. I have knitting group tonight and that always re-charges me, so I’m off.

D is for Deadlines

Once again I can confirm why knitter’s have this thing called - rotation. Knitting the same things - day after day after day… gets dang boring. Plus this makes for a very boring blog. I seem to just be focused on my projects right now and since everyone knows what Mac ‘n Cheese looks like I don’t have much else to talk about. Shame on me.

So yes the little mitered squares are moving along - I may finish the squares this week. It’s a super fast knit, especially when you are so focused on getting things done before the babies are born.

What is not faster, but still an easy lace pattern is my cocoon lace, which I worked on yesterday while I finished listening to The Power of One, which by the way is an excellent book. A little violent and dark, but full of hope. I’ve decided to put off listening to the sequel for a while, which is Tandia, to get into something a bit lighter. I picked out the first book in the James Herriot series, All Creatures Great and Small - I would like to listen to the whole series. I don’t know how I missed this series as a kid, since my childhood dream was to be a country vet. I’m much too much of a softy though, as I know it can be tough, plus I would probably be totally broke all the time. (lol) At least I could take payment in wool.

I forgot to take a picture of my Saturday Sky, whoops. It seems like all of them are really looking the same lately, so no biggie, but you can sure tell spring is in sight as it actually got warmer through the day yesterday and by 10 pm when the dogs went out it was 53-degrees. Whoa - now that’s interesting. Hopefully everyone will be safe though as it seems to be causing some terrible weather further south.

Happy Valentines Day!

A beautiful bunch of Stargazer lily’s showed up today from my Valentine.  We have to wait a little longer before they bloom as they were fresh cut from the farm.

I still have to set the heel up for the sock that will go to my Silly Sock pal.  It’s not complicated, but will take a little thought to get it started.  I have been buying a few little doodads here and there to put in the package, so getting this sock complete is definitely on my mind.

I have cast on yet another project.  The Cocoon Lace scarf.  I loved the one Donna at Random Knit’s did and thought this would be perfect for a future gift.  Out of kid silk haze.

Three Bee’s

So I wasn’t feeling so well last night and decided to watch Persuasion on the new Masterpiece show, which was Masterpiece Theater before it’s makeover. Anyway if you haven’t seen it on PBS - I’m sure it will be on near you. It’s a whole Austin series. I guess it didn’t get the best reviews, but I really liked it. While I was still waiting on my roving to dry, I pulled out the Bee.

Betcha think I forgot, didn’t you. Well, I didn’t and now have three proud bees. This part has actually worked up the quickest for me and I did 10 rows last night. I still love this pattern.

Through the Swarm

I’ve made it through the swarm…

now onto the last section. I’m seriously contemplating doing the petite. Since I’m so vertically challenged, I don’t want to get swallowed up in the shawl. You know I want to wear it, I don’t want it to wear me. I’m thinking the petite size will be large enough for me. If that’s the case - 30 more rows and then the end edging. The light at the end of the tunnel is getting brighter on this one, but let me just say, I’ve enjoyed the journey on this one. While I do have to get an eye on the chart, it is repetitive enough for me to enjoy it.

Back to the Swarm

I had a good session with Bee Fields Last night.  Even though it was only something like 8 rows I knitted, I felt like I was flying.  I’m 3/4 of the way through the swarm.  12 rows to go on the chart and then the changing of the sections which is 6 rows and then the final part.

I keep thinking I need to change to longer needles, but it seems to be working out ok for now.

Row 17

Still buzzing though the bee fields.  I’m up to row 17… whohoo…

Swarming

So I’m now in the swarm section. I’ve made two mistakes so far, but I think fixable so not bad. One was in the reverse stockinette. It had to be in the yarn overs. I tinked and tinked, but couldn’t find it, so when I got to the next pattern row in the swarm I did a k3tog and called it good.

Next was a missed k2tog. I dropped down and fixed it… I think pretty good because now I can’t even find where it happened.

Other than that… loving this pattern. It’s super easy, but still enough to keep me challenged. In this part there is a new to me stitch. Not hard, just haven’t had a use for it in the past.

Through the Bee Hives

I’m through the hive section and ready to start the swarm section.

I can’t believe I’ve been so diligently knitting this one. It’s (a) highly addictive and (b) fun to knit. Plus part of me is afraid to put it down and do another big project because it may get lost and never finished.

Today I’ve been on the search for a Heritage Turkey for Thanksgiving. I’ve been listening to this book and it got me thinking - hey time to get my orders in. Actually it got me thinking about many things - it’s a very thoughtful book. Also, it has seemed to renew my interest in cooking once again. Oh, I fogot to mention that after 6 months, I’ve dumped Dinner by Design. It was fast and edible, but we go tired of it. Some was fabulous, some was not my taste. A lot of barbecue sauce combos, which I imagine covers tastes, and I’m not a big barbecue sauce fan.

I’ve also been looking into CSA’s for next year, we have quite a famous one about 20-30 minutes from here- there’s even been a movie about Farmer John. The only thing is we are only 2 - so I may try to see if we can get a share box. They haven’t had a lot of luck with share boxes, but I hate to see anything go to waste. I may be better off just heading out weekly to our huge farmer market, which has 75 vendors on average every week and is less than 5 minutes from here.

Deep in the Fields

The Bee Fields that is…

bee fields 9-20-2007 9-53-01 AM

Only 30 more rows to go and then it’s off to the swarm. I hit a stride on this one and have the pattern to be easy, so far so good. I really find myself wanting to knit on it, it’s kinda addictive. :)
