Grandma’s Tools

When my Grandmother died a year ago this month, my Mother ended up with her hooks and some of her tools.  She was 94 at the time of her death and she must’ve known that my Mom would have ended up with this and put the name of her mother and father on a note in the box in case she forgot, which of all places to leave a note, this we found interesting.

Anyway, I put the tools away and didn’t think about them for a while.  Sunday seems to be alternative craft day around here focusing on crocheting lately and when I didn’t have the right hook size, I remembered Grandma’s box.

When I really got to looking I noticed some treasures in the box.  First off she had hooks that had 10-cents on them.  Finally she had some tiny, tiny hooks and these interesting things.  I think these must’ve been bobbins for tatting as the super tiny hooks would’ve made sense as well.  One of these looks exactly like a shawl pin that I recently bought.

Also, look at the sock needles never un-packaged.

I always remember Grandma as a crocheter, but my Ma said she did all sorts of crafts.  Knitting, embroidery (I still have those pieces to show), obviously bobbin lace or tatting, and what became her favorite and I remember the most clearly crochet.
