Rhinebeck Fleeces

On Sunday, I drifted back over to the fleece tent. I just wanted to see if there was anything I missed that really needed to come home with me. Well, there was 1 gorgeous CormoX that did end up needing a home. Now if your into fleeces and not into mass crowds here’s a little tip. Go on Sunday and hang out – the Shepard’s come in and start marking fleeces down. I was looking at lovely Opal’s fleece that was just under 5 pounds and marked at $72. I said well… and I kept looking. There was a call looking for her fleece and I handed it over to the Shepard remarking I was just looking at it. She said she was going to mark it down and put it at $66. At that point, I got up my gumption and asked if she would take $60. Well, if she’s marking down then whey not ask. Plus that put me in my normal $12 a pound budget fleece.

During all of this another women who won a blue ribbon was over arguing with the organizers about why her $32 a pound fleece has not been sold. I won’t go into the sordid details, but it was an eye opener on all ends.

Here are some washed samples. Cormo x on the left , longwool in the middle and Shetland on the right.

After walking around for a bit more, I also found a gentleman selling Shetland’s and this baby one called to me. 2 pounds at $24, so again in my budget. Julie and I headed to Fedex on Monday and they showed up right away even on ground… now I have one more Shetland I bought in Wisconsin. I was really thinking I would wash these, but now I’m thinking about just putting them back in the box and sending them on to be dealt with. I’ll make a decision this weekend.

Oh yes… here’s what the wool cat thought of my haul. I think she had a preference for the black one. This cat was born in a barn and I really wouldn’t be surprised if they had sheep. The other cats were curious… but this is Sunshine and she is all about the wool.
