A Madame Purl Book Review

So it’s been about a month since my last book review and in that time I finished 3 new books – all which were quite delightful.

My first book was The Goddess Rules by Clare Naylor read by Anne Flosnik. I thought this book sounded good, but purely on an entertainment level. It was pure chick-lit entertaining. Kate Disney is an animal portrait artist who is living in a shed behind a friends/antique dealers house. Her life is of course in shambles – for gosh sakes she is living in a shed. Into the house moves sexy – but recluse French movie star – Mirabelle Moncur whos joie de vivre is legendary. She has come on the premise that Kate needs to paint her lion cub Bebe but she has unfinished business in England. In the meantime she teaches Kate a little joie de vivre of her own and helps get her life in order and out of the shed.

My second book was Dollar Daze by Karin Gillespie narrated by Carrington McDuffie. This is the third in the Bottom Dollar Girls series and love comes to Cayboo Creek, GA. I may have mentioned this before, but what I love about this series is how they focus on a different character from town each book. These really are great books. Fun, quick paced and totally entertaining.

My third book I’m sure many in my audience has read – Knitting by Anne Bartlett read by Beverly Dunn. I would probably give this book 4 stars just for the knitting content alone – out of 5 stars. It was good, but sometimes hard to listen to. The main character is very selfish and while it is a story about friendship and learning to be a true friend and step out of that selfish patten, it does take some bumps in the road to get there. Really both women have gone through tragedy in their life and carry their own baggage sometimes literary and figuratively.

I realized I don’t listen to enough books from that side of the world – set in Australia and I should the language is so rich in nuances and for this book I thought the narration was very good. Overall, the ending is tied up neatly, but don’t expect a feel good knitting novel on the ride over.

Well that’s enough for today – I feel better I’m up to speed on my little reviews. I’m listening to Thunderstruck now by Erik Larson – I wish that man would have been my high school history teacher, I would’ve learned something.
