Beaded Coin Purse

Madame Purl loves Spin-Off, but I’ve never actually made anything from the magazine before…until now. They have a cute little change purse that is knitted with beads. It’s so sweet, I had to make it. Here is the yarn I spun – I think it’s 15-17 wpi. I forgot to re-measure it. It is a 50-50 blend of wool and mohair. The wool is a Romney x Cormo/? mix. A very soft and sweet sheep. I had planned on mixing it with the black kid mohair, but it was so soft, I opted to not blend it all together.
Here is the pre-stage.

Here is after all the beads have been knitted in – very easy pattern.

I did all of this while it was raining this morning. In the afternoon I headed out to the gardens and found this little guy which was at least the size of a half-dollar coin – if not larger. Owww…

Finally I finished The Masque of the Black Tulip. Great book. I’ve also been playing with WordPress. This new theme is pretty neat. I’ve been trying several out and this one works great with the sidebar widgets I put in place. Do you notice the new book link I put in? Isn’t that cool – it will keep track of your reading. While I was surfing around this evening trying to put this in I noticed this cool service – bibliophil.org that will allow you to keep track of your entire library. I don’t keep a large one, but this is a cool service.

  • Oooo, more beaded stuff- I love that little project and that is in fact one of the back issues of spin-off I bought. Hmm…. I’ve got some pink that might do very nicely for that!

I used to have a black spider that made a web like that one back in Louisiana. He would build his web from the eaves of the house all the way down to the ground. Boy does it freak you out when you walk through one of those webs half asleep! Argh! :)

I’ll have to check out bibliophil, sounds like the “library thing” that’s been going around as well.

I love the new look of your blog!!!! Very elegant my Dear!!! This is the WordPress that you put on your own site isn’t it? I’m using a WordPress blog on the wordpress.com site right now and I don’t remember having seen this theme…
I will have to get a book on HTML so that when Nola (who hosts my website on her server) adds WP to it I know enough HTML to fiddle around with it :)

Very cute purse by the way… and very creepy spider!!!

    Cheers Eva

I, too, am making the beaded coin purse, but think I must be missing something here! When doing the lattice stitch I am increasing a stitch everytiime I knit on the bead under the carried piece of yarn, so as I progress it is getting wider and wider–won’t this be a major problem when I’m ready to sew it all together? Should some sitiches be knit together somewhere?
Hope you have some advice for me. Your blog is quite nice,

    Thanks!
